Welcome,
To start off the semester I am doing a case study on the aspects and design of retail kiosk. Fundamentally for a kiosk or small retail space you need a space, a product, a customer and a means of taking payment. While I'm sure our designs will include a greater variety of elements theses are truly the only four required. Usually Kiosk are stand-alone structures used for the sale of small goods and some services in small and distinct space. When analyzing into what other features are often common and successful in a kiosk I discovers a much more Extensive list of possibilities to pull from in order to create an engaging and purposeful retail space. Including...
Structure
Boundary
Surface
Display
Direction
Lighting
Electric
Point of contact
Separation
Storage
Base
Ceiling
Signage

This is a basic kiosk, you can see all of these components in play here. I am especially drawn to the way the boundary and structure are executed with the gravel and translucent glass.
When looking at small retail spaces this list expands even more to include
Entrance
Flow
Seating
Mini structures
Open space
Permeability
And much more

The array of elements are much more diverse and plenty. I have started to mix these elements
and focused in on pop up rental spaces and kiosk, that's are a mix of movable and often modular environments that are set up quickly and simply and are then closed and packed up quickly and simply.

This space showcases a modular feel with moving elements that open the space and create seating and permeable boundaries with the open sided fell to ground the structure in the environment and while providing visual contrast.
The tea shop show above was the most literal example of of a pop up shop that I could locate. This kiosk is completely shut away from sight when it is closed and when it is time to open all elements can be extracted from the seemingly solid wall to produce a fully operation retail and service space in less than 5 minutes.

This structure is collapsible boundary and i mostly included it because it is incredibly visual and capturing
Here are some more interesting display options that play on perspective ans line

The space above is the furthest from our original assignment but it deviates in such a captivating way that I just had to include it. this space my look like a library but it is actually one of the newest Starbucks locations in Tokyo Japan. in this location consumers are encourage to browse through the space and explore different options of drinks. the books have information and ingredients about the options and are color coated biased in category and all this is done simply for consumer enjoyment and to help educate the public about what is going into their product.
